OS Research

OS ResearchOperating systems research is an interesting part of computer science that takes place as computer software and hardware (the hardware and software are the base systems for the operating system) are made. Operating systems, which are the most fundamental and important aspect of the overall system, include the core operating system programs and hardware configuration and basic utilities of the operating system.OS research is a highly specialized field of computer science that focus on OS development and in particular the use of languages, language designs, and runtime libraries, to develop large scale complex operating systems. The major goal of any OS research project is to create a modern, effective, scalable, extensible operating system with minimum effort from the programmer. OS research encompasses all types of software, ranging from the humble graphical user interface (GUI) to very sophisticated UNIX or Linux based applications.OS research is designed to give programm ers the ability to easily create new applications that utilize software features, languages, and toolkits common to many different types of operating systems. The goal of OS research is to be able to make a large number of independent software applications that all work well together using a single high level programming language.OS research can be defined as the study of how to produce reliable applications with minimal effort on the part of the programmer. The main goal of OS research is to make it possible to develop reliable applications in a short amount of time with low memory usage. As new OS are developed, OS research seeks to make them more reliable and robust, even while preserving the flexibility and user friendliness inherent in modern OS design.OS research is the area of computer science that studies the properties of operating systems. Operating systems are the most important component of a computer and comprise a large percentage of its total processing power. In terms of research, there are two types of OS research. These include the 'live' method of OS development, where the OS design is studied to understand and predict the behavior of its applications; and the 'unit tests' method of OS development, where the application is tested on a specific OS configuration and its behavior is tested.OS research is concerned with methods for producing applications that are secure, robust, and reliable. The focus of this type of research is to provide a means for programmers to quickly create large scale software applications that can run on multiple platforms. The goal of any OS research project is to provide a usable, efficient, easy to use, and consistent platform that can be used on a wide variety of operating systems.

Dawson Stahly Essays - Aesthetics, Philosophical Movements

Dawson Stahly Design History Reading Response 7: A Brave New World In A Brave New World Byrne and Witte explore how designers have developed in recent years concerning technological advancements, deconstructivism, and their influence on typography. They discuss how personal computers have caused grids to fall out of fashion and, "given designers the ability to create until a page seems correct to them." After discussing how technology has cause for the grid to no longer find use in modern design, we delve into how deconstruction came to be, what reasons it is used for, and why it is crucial for a designer to know the impact that deconstructing can have on historical context. One form of deconstruction consists of creating typography outside of its legible purpose and using it as a more illustrative element in your composition. Katherine McCoy's Poster For Cranbrook's Graduate Program in Design is an excellent exhibit of how graphic design's postmodern style takes identity in illegibility and designed objects taking charge, abandoning the order and s et processes modernism had set in place before postmodernism's arrival. The use of text in that image is near illegible so it forces readers eyes to interweave their focus between design and text, giving each equal attention. This strategy also helps to reinforce conceptual ideas of designs where text is needed without letting it fall between the cracks unnoticed. As we discussed in class postmodernism saw stages before personal computers became available, strategies such as photo type were used to manipulate text and develop it in ways that became less of strict text and to view it more as an illustrated design. The computer and strategies like photo type gave postmodernist faster and more advanced ways to stray from the pro-western modernist approach that they were reacting against. The postmodernist ideas of art's value being a social construct can be a cause of why pieces that seem to be so chaotic and disorganized are seen. The designers of that time are fleeing from the idea o f certain methods being the only way to do things and that art can have any sort of presentation and still have value independently. I view the postmodernist movement as a sort of mix between Dada and Modernism because of how they didn't quite go to the extreme of anti-art, but they certainly didn't want to be constrained by guidelines and rulebooks in their design work. This is how I think postmodernism has contributed to liberating art as having such an open lens to what art really is' in today's world, so many different mediums and works have been introduced from abstraction in sculpture to performance that would not have been seen as anything artistic had it not been for the distancing we see from modernism. International security in the 21st century Essay

International security in the 21st century - Essay Example Still there are some key objectives which determine the foreign policy of Beijing. Among them we can see the aim to promote Chinese economy to maintain its double annual growth; an effort to separate Taiwan; the wish to increase the international prestige of China and efficiently compete with the supremacy of the USA. To achieve these objectives in recent years China has concluded a number of bilateral partnerships and agreements, joined or increased its activity in numerous international organizations and established a few organizations, which are not participated by the USA. In some points China’s approach in policy has several advantages compared with that of the USA. Beijing provides â€Å"unrestricted† nature for overseas investments and loans, which is very attractive for foreign governments. Large state-owned Chinese companies are so strongly supported by their government that they can even afford small short-term losses in favor of prospective long-term profits (Boxell, 2004). However, there are weak points in China’s approach in comparison with the USA. Due to China’s â€Å"win-win† method dealing first with easy problems and putting off the more complicated ones, its foreign development policy has a much narrower base. China actively gets and develops the international presence, while this brings a lot of unexpected issues, for example, â€Å"it provides many opportunities for international misunderstanding and cultural conflicts† (Ellis, 2004). And lastly, in contrast to the USA, China does not benefit from well-developed private sector. However, it is clear that China’s growing international cooperation not only with undemocratic governments but also with key U.S. allies gives reasons to focus the attention on its foreign policy objectives. The convincing argument for this is the fact that since its foundation in 1949 the PRC has greatly changed its foreign policy having shifted from the Mao Zedongâ⠂¬â„¢s policy of â€Å"self-reliance† to deep and wide multinational relations. Already in 1978, two years after Mao’s death China actively started looking for foreign presence, investments and technologies. Since 2000 China’s diplomacy became particularly sophisticated and active (Ellis, 2004). China’s â€Å"New Security Concept† This report would not be complete without mentioning some important changes in security policy of China. China’s politicians stress that in post-Cold War world the PRC’s security policy is based on â€Å"mutual trust, mutual equality, and cooperation†. Accordingly, today China does its best to assure the world that its economy, international development and military potential do not threaten to other countries and serve to balance the power of the USA (Goldstein, 2005). It is difficult to define the PRC’s security policy precisely; it neither spreads its ideology, nor aggressively demands for n ew territories. However, it is undoubtedly that it represents a challenge to policymakers of the USA and raises many unanswered questions: does China’s global activity have a pragmatic strategy or it is just aimed to achieve economic advantages? Does China intend to replace the USA as a global power or it just focuses on internal development? Does China feel confident and strong or uncertain and weak? The â€Å"Soft Power† Concept First the term of â€Å"soft power† was used by Harvard professor Joseph S. Nye, Jr. as opposite to â€Å"

Women in business nowadays and the past Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Women in business nowadays and the past - Essay Example Stereotyping against women is a common trait around the business world. Yet, everybody should realize that a woman is in no way inferior to man and she can very well handle the pressures and stressful life of the business. Handling a family with the work is no easy job and many women in today's age are not just balancing work and family life, rather they are integrating it. The business world is getting infused with a diverse workforce day by day. The trend towards being an equal opportunity employer is rising. More and more women are being hired in today's corporate world. And the differences between men and women are being sorted out as women take on as many as 25% of top level managerial posts in successful organizations. Therefore, the composition of males and females in the workforce of a typical organization has changed. Yet men still possess a significant amount of decision making in their hands. Whether it is the power to hire and fire or to access financial resources, men are always given the advantage over women. But if businesses are to reach their highest potential, they need to make full use of women by accepting the fact that they are different from men and are not inferior to them in any way.1 Approaches to conflict: When it comes to a conflict, men usually consider it a healthy process and they use logic, bargaining and even anger to resolve it. Whereas, on the other hand, women tends to focus on the affective part by understanding each others feelings in a conflict. For women, conflict is undesirable and damaging in many ways. They have a negative view point of conflict and therefore, they would like to get it solved without exaggerating it thereby using less direct approaches. Research also suggests that men will tend to go for riskier solutions when it comes to resolution of conflict. Supervision and leadership styles: although leadership styles would look pretty similar on the core, they are quite different. Research has found that women tend to treat their subordinates more as colleagues than the men and women also encourage the participation of everyone in a decision making process. Men, in such positions, will go for a less collaborative style, and will give more directions and tend to be more dominating too. Relationship with others is an integral part of women's leadership styles than for men. A woman also tries to build a sense of community in the place where she is the leader, unlike men. Working in teams: men and women think differently in terms of what needs to be communicated when a team is in action. Women put a lot of importance to these team characteristics: competence, respect, fairness, knowledge of team member's roles, and team members should also provide extra help and support to each other when needed. Whereas, men do not place much importance on these characteristics. The Role of Women in the Society Women, more or less, assume a particular cultural and gender role that they have to fulfill. In pre-historic times, the women of the family used to help the man in doing whatever business they did out of the farms or by doing agriculture. The women used to gather products like fish or learn to

Yes, College is Worth the Money Essay Example for Free

Yes, College is Worth the Money Essay According to College Board, higher earning potential is number one when it comes to benefits of going to college. The median earnings of bachelors degree recipients working full-time year-round in 2008 were $55,700. (Hardy) A lot of current college students say that college is not worth the money, but they are still in college because they know without some type of degree it is going to be difficult to be financially stable and career ready but along with that they will learn some sort of responsibility. To start off, considering the fact that no one wants to struggle and everyone wants to be financially stable a college degree is required. With a college degree you are not always guaranteed a job as soon as you graduate but when you do get in your career field you will always be paid more than a person who just has a high school diploma. On average, the salary given to a person with a with a four year degree is approximately 45,000 dollars verses a lower income coming from someone with just a high school diploma. Studies show that those holding bachelor’s degree will earn about 2.2million dollars in a lifetime and those with a masters, doctorial and professional degrees will earn about 2.67 million, 3.25million and 3.65 million dollars in a lifetime. So, furthering your education will determine you financial stability. Daughtry2 Being career ready is very important before going out in to you designated career field. Going to college will help you become career ready both academically, socially and hands on. Of course coming toschool doing book work is a necessity. Also, you are going to have most likely take courses that are not related to your career and as well as the ones that are your focus. But, all of the course you take will help you in the long run somehow or another, even if it looks pointless it’s probably a class to make you look at life differently. For instance, an Elementary Education major’s  curriculum guide requires a current student to take African American Studies as a freshmen. This class has nothing to do with the chosen major but it will show individuals enrolled in this course so many different things they can use when they start their career. Socially, college has been a major help due to the fact that most freshmen are easily intimidated and shy when they begin college. College professors assign group assignments and various other group activities to help them out. Socializing with peers as well as children, who will one day consume most of my time. Hands on, field experience, is actually for an Elementary Education major going to the classroom and talking with students and reading to them etc. Field experience lets you know if this is what you still want to do and if so it allows you to get hands on experience. In addition, going to college teaches you how to be responsible. For those who have time management issues and problems with procrastination coming to school will show you that if you do not have somewhat of a set schedule you will fail. As a college student you have to learn how to wash your own clothes if you did not already know how, you have to learn how to budget and the biggest thing coming to college you will learn fast is self-discipline. Self-discipline is knowing you have class in the morning so you do not go out with your friends the night before Daughtry3 because you know you are not going to make it to that eight o’ clock. That’s discipline yourself in college, having this practice will have you responsible enough to go out in the work force. Often times though, high school students feel as if college is not for them due to the previous struggles, failures and or experiences they have had in high school. â€Å"Failure is punished instead of seen as a learning opportunity. We think of college as a stepping-stone to success rather than a means to gain knowledge. College fails to empower us with the skills necessary to become productive members of Today’s global entrepreneurial economy.† (Stephens) His point of view is very understandable and realistic. Agreeing with Dale Stephens, Marty Nemko, says too that college is a waste of time.  In an article entitled â€Å"We send too many to college†, Nemko practically states that parents are wasting their money by sending their â€Å"bottom 40 percentile† child to college because they barely made it out of high school so why would you send them to college. â€Å"Even worse, most of those college dropouts leave college having learned little of practic al value and with devastated self-esteem†¦ those people rarely leave with a career path likely to lead to more than McWages.† (Nemko) Going against the idea that college is worth the money the two authors have very valid points. All in all, college is still worth the money and although a lot of current college students say that college is not worth the money, where are they? They are still in college because they know without some type of degree it is going to be difficult to be financially stable and career ready. Coming to college will teach them some responsibilities that they have probably never had to do. College is definitely worth the money. Daughtry 4 Works Cited Kirszner, Laurie G., and Stephen R.
